A Peculiar Encounter

The average human meets at least 3 billion people in their whole lifetime. I myself have met many of them and will want to continue to do so because it gives me the desire to constantly meet new people and learn about their culture, jobs, experiences etc.

I had one such weird encounter when I had to take a train to Goa for a science quiz in biology, my favourite subject. The train I took was early at 7:00 a.m. Panaji express. I woke up early to make sure I did not miss my train at any cost. Getting out of the taxi, the first thing that hit me was the sweet aroma of a train station coffee along with the slight odour of humanity. Looking at the arrival board and noting the details that my train has finally arrived on platform 9 as I dashed with a stroller in tow and haversack in hand toward the exquisite ‘Panaji Express’.

Boarding the train I counted the berths until I finally reached mine and settled in pretty quickly onto the soft memory foam seat which made me feel like I was sitting on clouds. Once comfortable I gazed up to see who would be accompanying me on my journey that day. I was met with a peculiar yet funny-looking pair of neon green and blue glasses having sparkles on them as the lady who wore them flashed a bright smile at me as I returned the courtesy. Her smile was like the Sun's rays itself illuminating my gloomy self at that time because I had been doubting my ability to perform well in the quiz the next day.

She was a beautiful woman who had brown doe eyes which sparkled in the Sunlight and tan brown skin that gleamed in the Sun's rays making her look ethereal.

The loud “SCREECH” and the “TOOT-TOOT “ of the train broke me out of my stupor as I then hurriedly removed my textbook and notes to try and revise and go through as much information as I could in my time on my train since it was my motto to always efficiently manage my time and not waste my time doing nothing.

However after about an hour or so I started to have some problems with one of the sums in the textbook about how a genetic defect could transfer from the father but not be seen in the offspring. I wracked my brain for another 15 minutes and slammed the book on the provided bench due to being mentally exhausted from trying to find the solution when I saw the woman peering into my book and asking in a sweet voice whether she could attempt to help me.

In a total of 2 minutes, she took the paper from my hand and scribbled some things on it as she handed it to me wearing a proud look on her countenance. As I saw it, I was shocked to the core to see the sum fully and correctly solved. She then went on to explain where I had not taken into consideration a certain factor and giggled as I smacked my head against the wall for not seeing such a silly mistake.

Our happiness had come to a halt as the train stopped and the conductor announced that a stop had come, hearing which the lady got up and it suddenly hit me that her face was somewhat familiar as I flipped through the credits of the book only to be dumbfounded that she was the author to the book of biology that I was studying!

She was one of the most famous people in the world who was an inspiration to many as she had worked hard to reach where she had. Peering out of the train I saw the lady and yelled how thankful I was to her as she smiled a smile full of love and turned around and continued her journey.

That was the exact day where I realised that meeting new people can lead to unthinkable and impressionable experiences that lead to new roads. Since then I have resolved myself to study harder and harder to achieve my goals so that one day I too could be just as successful or perhaps even more than her.
