As a society, most individuals write off animation as being an art form that is only suited for a younger generation, and that the people that enjoy animation as an art form do not understand what art truly is. However, there is beauty and diversity in animation.
Most of us grew up watching Disney and Pixar animated movies, wherein the stories seemed surface level to us but in fact had several layers attached to them. Inside Out by Pixar studios is an example of a movie I did not understand upon first watch, but now that I am older, it’s a movie that I have a very special connection to because of how much I relate to it. Nowadays, the most common form of animation—and the most popular one—is Japanese animation, also known as anime. Anime features a diverse range of shows and movies that contain several stories that are so meticulously detailed and made. From the storytelling to the characters—and of course the main feature of it which is the animation—most Japanese anime is deemed as amazing because of the dedication and effort made by the creators to have their work touch and inspire as many people as possible. One big aspect of anime that I personally love are the characters. Most of them are so dedicated and willing to put in their best effort to accomplish their goals, and their struggle and journey is very relatable especially as an audience member. Another thing that makes Anime very unique is the overall art style that Japanese anime have. It’s a very specific art form that integrates details pertaining to the style of the characters and their facial features, it is also colored in an auto-realistic yet semi fictional setting where the world appears real yet also fictional at the same time.
More than Japanese animation however, in general, animation is an art form that can go to great lengths when it comes down to storytelling. A person can create an even greater story with animation than they can with a movie because of the lengths one can go when drawing characters and scenes. In movies, limitations are put onto actors for the physical performances they can achieve. However, animation can exceed those lengths and make the impossible a very clear reality.
