Badminton and dance are alike, but how? Badminton is a sport played with a racket and shuttlecock whereas dance is an art involving music and grace. They can’t possibly be alike?
However, what if I told you that the recipe to be a great badminton player and a great dancer had most of the same ingredients. What if P.V. Sindhu, a renowned badminton player and Michael Jackson, the king of pop have more in common than what meets the eye?
So, what must one do to pursue either of these professions? The common but uncommon base ingredient is practice. Both badminton and dance, be it kathak, hip hop or ballet, cannot be mastered in a day. They require lots of effort, sacrifice, perseverance and always have room for improvement. You have to be willing to burn the candle at both ends.
Now, there is a stereotype, familiar to us all, which must be addressed. “Dance isn’t nearly as hard as Badminton.” However, a fact often overlooked is that dance has been considered a sport and dancers as athletes since the early twentieth century. Its beauty is even recognized in mythology and folklore. Both these sports deserve to be respected equally. Another similarity found between badminton and dance is that they can be outlets for our emotions. One can express a myriad of thoughts through his movements and facial expressions, the power with which he swings the racket or the control with which she maintains balance. They are quite alike now aren’t they?
To conclude, if life gives you lemons, keep them aside and play badminton or dance instead.
