Emotions

"There are two types of people in this world, ones who are always happy and enjoy every moment of their life and the others who are sad and depressed about everything all the time. People who always have a smile and laugh are considered strong and those who always frown or stay sad are considered weak.

In this world, people are not considered based on their wealth or color but rather on their emotions. People who are always happy are seen as free and good civilians, living in a beautiful environment whereas people who are always sad or depressed are sent to prison and caged. According to the people, those who are sad bring bad luck with them and it affects the ones around them. People kept in jail are forced on medication and trained to be happy so they can enter the world outside the prison.

Is there anything left for you to ask?"

“Yes, young lad! My last question to you is, are there any chances of happy people turning sad again? If it's a yes then how would you prevent them from coming here again?”

Hearing this Hailer sat quietly for some good seconds before speaking up, “According to me it depends on them- whether they want to be happy or sad, and regarding the second question, if I had to stop someone from coming here, I would tell them to do whatever that keeps them joyful.

Hearing this the police officer stood up and said, “Congratulations you’re finally a free and happy man now”.

Hailer was a young man who had lost his mother at the age of 18. His mother’s death left a deep impact on him. He became quiet and miserable. Due to this, he was sent to prison which kept him away from worldly life. Today, he was finally freed and sent out. He walked out with the jacket in his hand. He was shocked to see how much the world outside had changed after 7 years. While walking every person passing by gave him a huge smile. People were talking and laughing happily, people gave each other kisses and hugs.

It was a totally different aura than the prison. He went and sat in a coffee shop on the streets. He saw a mime artist acting in front of the kids and making them giggle. Before the kids left they paid the mime artist and left. The mime artist's face soon went from joyful to sad.

He came and sat on a chair at the cafe and removed his hat. He started counting the money and made a sad face as he had not earned enough money. The mime artist made a huge sigh and walked away. Hailer was observing him the whole time. While walking further he passed by a graveyard and saw many people standing there. It seemed like it was a funeral but the people were not shedding a single tear nor making a sorrowful face. They were rather smiling and saying the vows. He noticed a small young boy silently crying but his mother warned him to not cry.

“What has the government done to them?” he said with a bit of anger in his voice.

“Why does no one have the right to choose what they feel or want to express? Why were we caged outside too?”

They realized how people were forcing themselves to be happy so that they could still live in the outside world. He went to town to meet his old friend who had now become a lawyer. He asked him why this rule was made. His friend replied, “Here it doesn't matter whether you are rich or poor, kind or mean, all you need to do is stay happy.

According to the government, people who tend to stay happy spread positivity and they work harder whereas people who are always sad don't do their work properly and tend to fail in life.”

Hailer couldn't accept this at all.

“It's our emotions and we should get to decide what and how we want to feel”, responded Hailer.

“The rules are made by the government, so we can’t go against it."

Hearing this he decided that he would do anything to change and stop the rule of going to prison. Hailer started making posters against the rule and put them all over the city. After a few days, he got in contact with many people who had the same thinking as him. He decided to gather people who would speak against the government. He also took help from his lawyer friend. He sent requests to change the rule. He spread the news from ear to ear. When he had gathered enough people to decide to protest against the Government. The government declined their offer but Hailer has his reasons ready. He made them realize how sadness helps someone in life. Life revolves around happy moments and sad ones too. People should know about pain, sadness, and suffering so that they work harder and move on. The government had no option but to listen to the citizens' words.

Since then the rule imprisoning the sad was stopped and everyone was allowed to enjoy the emotions of the outside world. Hailer had not expected all this to happen but was glad that no one would experience prison life again. Everyone could express and feel whatever they wanted. Sometimes crying helps heal a heart. Emotions are just like money, it depends on us how we balance it.
