When I was younger, I imagined my life as a circus arena. Constantly full of excitement and fun. Filled with magic and light! Now, I consider my life as the tent of the circus arena. Brightly coloured but also wrinkled and a little bit dented. When I was a child, my parents always told me that the world was a scary place, filled with people you have to think twice about trusting. Of course, back then I pretended like I understood what it meant but I didn’t fully grasp the idea. I don’t think I still have it honestly, but I may have a small idea.
I compare childhood to a circus tent, but really it could be anything that’s multicoloured and filled with magic! Let’s take a magical island for example. An island where there are no worries or fears, frolicking around is the main sport and excitement is the most common emotion. The next stage is adolescence, which signifies levelling up in a number of fields, but also the confusion and anxiety that one might face after experiencing new situations for the first time, unpredictable emotions and changes in themselves.
The sudden changes in the phases of life are frightening if you think about it. You find yourself catching your breath by the time you reach the end of your childhood and are thrown into adolescence. It is not only the confusion but also the anger that consumes you and holds you tight, similar to an animal trainer at a circus.
When the magic of childhood is gone, you begin to see the world through a different pair of glasses. One that’s clearer and filled with truth, understanding and wisdom. You look through the mirror of maturity, brimming with energy and excitement to make your place in the world.
