The tricolour is a symbol of pride for every Indian. It represents national integrity and fraternity while also displaying the hopes and aspirations of Indians. India just celebrated its 75th Independence Day with a celebration called ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. This was meant to commemorate 75 years of the independence of India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements. This Mahotsav was dedicated to the people of India who have been instrumental in India thus far in its evolutionary journey and who also hold within them the power to enable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of activating India 2.0, fuelled by the spirit of “Atmanirbhar Bharat”. The official journey of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav started on 12th March 2021 starting a 75-week countdown to our 75th anniversary of independence and it will end after a year on 15th August 2023.
‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ is a campaign under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to encourage people to bring the Tiranga home and to hoist it to mark the 75th year of Indian Independence.
The Centre urged people to hoist the tricolour in their homes from August 13 to 15 to participate in the celebrations of 75 years of India's Independence. The government also clarified that there is no restriction on the timing of flag display, a citizen, a private organisation or an educational institution can hoist the National flag on all days or occasions. Earlier, Indian citizens were not allowed to hoist the tricolour on all days, except on occasions.
Our relationship with the flag has always been more formal and institutional than personal. Bringing the flag home will make it symbolic of not only a personal collection to the Tiranga but also an embodiment of our commitment to nation-building.
It is meant to invoke patriotism among the people and promote awareness of the flag. It had to be ensured that the supply chain produces over 200 million flags and these flags must be available to every citizen. This event generated around Rs. 500 crores in business as over 30 crore flags were sold with the price per flag being just Rs. 25. There have been 60 million selfies taken with the flag and posted on the official website.
This event made the celebration of 75 years of Indian independence a true festival of the Indian community, by the Indian community and for the Indian community.
