I have learnt two things throughout this entire ‘adventure’.
One, is to never and I mean NEVER pick up a phone call from an unknown number. Two, I really should have listened to my mother when she said I read too many horror stories.
This ‘adventure’ of mine starts on a typical Friday night, parents are out at a function you are too young to attend and dear, college attending, elder brother is about at a party. Now, like most children I had finished my homework early and was currently watching a comedy movie while eating popcorn. Just as I was about to go to sleep, the phone rang. There was no caller id so I assumed ( wrongly might I add ) that my parents’ or my brother’s phone battery must have died and we’re calling to check from someone else’s phone. My mistake, I picked up my phone and
answered.
A creepy laughter ( you know like the DC villain, Joker has. The exact one, mind you. ) rang over the call. It ran chills down my spine. I was starting to get really scared. My heart pounded in my chest and I felt like it was about to jump out my throat. Suddenly the television switched on and Conjuring began to play. Now I was sure there was some evil bent out of shape spirit of some kind in my house. I ran to my room upstairs, screaming my head off, and hid under my bed covers. Then, through the silent house ( television switched off as soon as I ran out the room. Which was a little disturbing to be honest) ran the unmistakable sound of heavy footsteps. I whimpered, as the light switched on and despite the light blinding me, I made out a hazy figure. I shrieked and tried to hit the ghost ( person?) with a cricket bat that was near me when my vision cleared. I opened my eyes to see my house’s alleged ghost ( person?) was my very alive brother playing a
prank on me.
My parents had walked into the house trying not to move the ice I was applying to Aryan’s bruise. When I heard the whole story from him as he explained himself to our parents, I figured out how he commenced the perfect prank. He had switched on the TV by using the spare remote that he had left by the windowsill outside. The phone call had been staged by his friend ( who does Drama in college). They grounded him for scaring me so badly. I had crackled upon hearing that piece of good news. I liked the fact that he managed to scare me. I guess..
It’s my turn to scare him now!!!
