I am a voter of the new age. I am a free individual who is able to express his concerns and opinions, and has the constitutional right to vote which can be put to good use. My vote is a representation of my ideas, which I can put forth by choosing the right representative who truly believes in the welfare of their constituency, society and the nation.
Our country is a Democratic Republic, where every Indian citizen irrespective of his caste, creed, religion, gender or race, can partake in the act of voting and choosing his representative.
India is an emerging superpower and the world’s most populous democracy, making my individual vote just as important as collective votes. My contemporaries and I are “The Future of Our Country”, who will define the progress of our country in the decades to come. As a voter of the new age, I understand the “Power of One” and realise the fact that each individual vote is important. Therefore, it is imperative that I exercise my fundamental right to vote. The mighty ocean is made of up small water drops, similar to how a powerful democracy is made up of smaller votes. A single vote may not seem like much, but like the drops that make the ocean, several votes bring about substantial change.
Currently, alarmingly low voter turnouts have become far too common in State and Union elections, especially from urban areas. As a new age voter, I have to help reduce this anomaly. By refraining from voting, we do a disservice to our nation, our forefathers and our constitution creators, who toiled day and night to ensure we got the right to vote in the first place. I promise that as a new age voter I will harness the power of social media and technology to spread the message and encourage my fellow voters to participate in the act of voting. It is crucial that we as the future voters ensure the smooth governance of our country. We cannot be silent observers or cynical critics who only criticise the politicians, bureaucrats and administration in general, without ever making an honest attempt to participate and truly bring about a change. The vote cast by me as a new age voter, matters the most for we can bring about a change.
We need to ensure our vote is never purchased or oppressed. I consider voting as my moral and civic duty. The representatives I choose are an indirect way for me to raise my voice and concerns.
Ultimately, the manifesto to achieve great heights of national development has always laid stress on the importance of voters and their votes. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi, “Be The Change You Want To See In The World”.
