Everyone loves the vibe and the atmosphere when we enter into the last month of the year- December. It’s not only because the temperature reaches the low twenties here in Mumbai but also because Christmas is around the corner. The cold mornings are darker than usual however, the atmosphere is filled with the warmth and joy of the upcoming festivities! The Christmas tree brings the Christmas spirit to homes so people start to decorate their Christmas trees with gaily coloured balls, stars and lights. Children eagerly wait for the ever-so-loved Santa Claus to come in his sledge and place presents under the Christmas tree.
Apart from the decorations, gifts, feasts and Christmas carols, Christmas brings families together, and the significance of celebrating this festival is that we learn to share and give and also to be more compassionate towards the unfortunate. The essence of this festival is that it helps us to reflect on who we are and that’s why people from all over the world celebrate Christmas.
After Christmas, the celebrations aren’t over yet, everyone is waiting for the new year and a new beginning.
Just like that even in Mumbai, especially Bandra, is all decked up for the Christmas-New year celebrations. This year, 2021 has been a unique journey for all of us, and to end the year on a note of joy and positivity, the Tourism Minister of Maharashtra, Aaditya Thackeray has festooned the Bandra promenade, with lights and structures of Christmas balls, Reindeers, Santa Claus, snowman, Christmas stockings and the place is called- “Bandra Wonderland”.
It truly is a wonderland, as it has been embellished with decorations with a Christmas theme, which makes everyone feel like they are playing a role of a character in one of the Disney movies!
This project has received widespread acclaim and appreciation, looking at the enormous crowd that had gathered there to click pictures and to soak in the happiness and warmth in the atmosphere. However, due to certain covid restrictions, the number of people that could gather were limited nevertheless, the joyful spirit of the people was not limited. The true spirit of Christmas could be felt in the atmosphere.
