Mumbai VS Delhi - The Street Food Competition

As beautiful and lively as Mumbai is, it can get a little too overwhelming with it constantly moving. Step out in the streets of Mumbai, and you won't be left disappointed.

The Marine Drive -the seafront curved around southern Mumbai, Wankhede Stadium- be it IPL, Test match or ODI is an iconic stadium. Colaba, Flora Fountain, etc are street food capitals in Mumbai. Furthermore, we definitely cannot miss out on the Vada Pav! Mumbai has lots to offer, with the amazing “Chaat'' at the Chowpatty Beach or the “Khau Galli''. The Mohammed Ali Road and ‘Bade Miyaan’ -restaurant in Colaba are a great treat for non-vegetarians.

Irani cafés spread through Colaba. Parsi, Mughlai, Maharashtrian, Konkani, etc are the main cuisines offered. Now, I would like to draw your attention to the best known beverage in India, Chai (tea) or as we like to call it “Cha” or “Cutting”.

Mumbai’s first local train starts at 3.20A.M. but the “Chaiwallah” starts earlier. When you are in Mumbai, sandwiches will not be the first thing that comes to your mind while thinking about street food. However, Bombay Sandwiches are a must-try. Bombay Fries are served in more than 25 types and in more than 15 ways!

The Capital City of Delhi, one of the most spectacularly planned cities in India. Delhi’s winters, Delhi’s food, Delhi’s heritage, Delhi itself is a famous city. Delhi or as we love to call it “Dilli” is a food paradise.

With the famous Golgappa, Chole Bhature, Momo’s and the famous Ram Ladoo. Delhi has a treat for all, whether it be the non-vegetarians or vegetarians. Kareem’s Kabab Corner or Lajpat Wale Ram Ladoo. Connaught Place has the original Keventers Milkshake, Kwality Restaurant, where there are framed pictures of the congress assembly, dated back to the 50s, having their meals. Watching the Bollywood movies, I think everyone has an idea of the iconic “Chandni Chowk”. Delhi street food is incomplete without the sweets of Chandni Chowk. It is one of the oldest marketplaces in Delhi, existing from the time of the Mughals. In Chandni Chowk there is the “Parathe Di Galli” you will find parathas here with uncountable fillings served with tamarind and pumpkin sauce. The Natraj Dahi Bhalla corner serves Dahi Bhalla’s that would melt in your mouth. Whereas the Chaina Ram Sweets is famous for its samosa and ‘mithais’.

Lajpat Nagar is one of the shopping districts of Delhi. It also is the place where you would find the most authentic Punjabi dishes, such as Chole Bhature, Chole Kulche, Ram Ladoo, etc. It not only serves Punjabi food but also sandwiches and Chinese dishes.

Whether it be Mumbai or Delhi, for me, street food can never be replaced with fine-dine restaurants.
