We’ve all heard of One Direction, haven't we? One of the biggest bands of all time, they sold millions of records and are still blowing up the music charts even after disbanding almost 7 years ago. The band had 5 members namely Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne. Earning a million fans worldwide, they hold one of the world’s largest fan bases as of today.
The British-Irish band was put together on July 23, 2010 on a television music competition known as ‘The X-Factor’. Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh -judges on the show thought that they would do better as a band. Hitting a million views with their first single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’, they gained popularity rapidly and it wasn't long before the first album ‘Up All Night’ was released.
The second album blew up the charts as well, and by now the five of them had become the best of friends, each of them establishing their own role in the band. The fans had now given their fanbase a name, and they were known as the ‘Directioners’. ‘Midnight Memories’ the third album was out on the 25th of November, 2013. This was the era where their music changed a little bit and slightly included R&B music as well.
About 5 months after the fourth album was out, on March 25 2015, One Direction revealed some shocking and heartbreaking news through facebook, that Zayn Malik was leaving the band. Directioners everywhere were stunned and sorrowful. The band members were immensely sad that Zayn was leaving but they gave him all their love, and wished him the best for the future. The band decided they would continue as a four-piece and go about with their next album. ‘Made In The A.M.’, the last album to be released by 1D, was launched on the 13th of November, 2015. This album was the most different one as it had only four voices, instead of five. Nonetheless, it was an amazing album.
Holding endless inside jokes, hard times, great memories and a special place in our hearts, One Direction announced they were disbanding in January, 2016. The break was only supposed to last for eighteen months, so hope still remained. Seven years later, here we are, still waiting.
