Heroic and patriotic, have some surprising meanings, all of nobility and positivity. They say, ‘A nation owes a debt to its fallen heroes that we can never fully repay.’ But I feel that heroism doesn’t always happen in a burst of glory. Sometimes small triumphs and large hearts change the course of life and eventually history.
So, what is the difference between being heroic and patriotic?
For me, a heroic person definitely should be admirable, brave, valiant, courageous, determined, fearless, and most importantly noble. For me, a patriotic person is someone who vigorously loves, supports, devotes, defends, and is loyal towards his or her country. According to me, anybody who joins the military force, the army, the Navy, or the air force, is truly a hero and has the burning flame of passionate patriotism. Because any person who joins these forces signs a contract payable up to death to defend the nation versus all enemies. They are risking their lives to ensure that you and I can sleep peacefully at night.
How many of you have heard of Late Baba Harbhajan Singh? This great personality is believed to be working for the betterment of the country as a soldier even after his death. If you ever visit the beautiful state of Sikkim post the pandemic, you can visit his memorial and know more about his bravery and commitment to the country.
Who else according to you is worthy of being called a hero, especially in 2020? Most of you may have guessed it right, it is our healthcare professionals. Doctors and nurses are blessed with the magical powers to bring life into this world, to heal our wounds, and to be the ray of hope in the darkness. Today, at great personal risk, they are working for our wellbeing, safeguarding us against an invisible enemy. I pay my heartfelt tribute to every doctor, nurse, support staff who are all front-line warriors across the country and are working tirelessly during this pandemic for end-to-end care of the patients. They to me are the real heroes!
To conclude, I will be doing injustice to everything I’ve mentioned if I don’t end on this note, that, heroism and patriotism go hand in hand, heroic deeds are often inspired by the love for one’s nation. Thus, patriotism often lays the foundation for heroism.
This Republic Day let's pledge to be patriotic and thus heroic throughout the year, not only on a day that holds national importance, let's come together and hold the profound patriotism that we have today, everyday and let's do the little things that we can to make our country proud as citizens.
