There's no rose without a thorn. With good comes bad. A coin has 2 sides and so does social media.
In days like these, where people can't go out of their homes without the risk of getting infected, social media has emerged as a lifesaver.
Without actually physically being there we can now talk to anyone from anywhere. Many platforms have emerged where you can share your photos and in response people like them and comment. As good as that sounds, there are negative effects to this which is now becoming a major issue.
For the approval of others, we are changing ourselves. We see people who we want to be like and hence we start acting like them so that they start liking us.
While this may be a good influence in some cases, most of the time it's not. It forces us to compare ourselves to someone else; which is kind of unfair. We see influencers living their best lives out there, but what we do not realize is that it's about 2 percent of their actual lives. That they aren't perfect. That they too don't have a perfect life.
Changing ourselves for the approval and love of others is something that this generation is constantly doing. It leads to unnecessary pressure and unhealthy comparisons. This is where social media can cause psychological damage or make us hate ourselves even more.
Social media is just a visual representation of our ‘perfect life’ and therefore we should not be misguided by it or judge anyone on the basis of it.
In the last few years, social media has taken over our lives in every way. It seems to be taking away people’s self-confidence and personalities alongside many other things. The problem with today’s generation is that they don’t love themselves enough to let others love them just the way they are. So the question is, have you lost yourself to the virtual world?
