“Stop child labour”

Have you ever seen a child at a roadside shop cleaning tables and maybe serving food sometimes? That’s what we call child labour. It has been a cognizable criminal offense for a long time. If a person is found employing a child below the age of 14 or 18 in hazardous activities can be given jail time with a fine of 20,000 up to 50,000. This needs to be attended immediately.


Child labour is illegal employment of children in any job which makes them loose out on basic fun moments of childhood and more importantly their education. In developing countries with high poverty and poor school opportunities child labour is still present unfortunately. Children forced into labor suffer from the loss of childhood and stunted physical and mental development.Recent incident in which a pilot and her husband allegedly employed and tortured a 10-year-old girl as a domestic help in Dwarka. There is an increase in child labor in the city, with the number of underage workers rescued almost tripling compared to the previous year. Police rescued three minors working in a metal works unit in Maharashtra's Thane district and arrested individuals involved in employing child laborers.

160 million children worldwide are involved in child labour which represents 1 in 10 children. From 2000-2020 child labour has decreased by 85.5 million dropping from 16% to 9.6%

The most child laborers are recorded in Africa and then in Asia and the pacific region. These three together account for almost 9 out of every 10 children child labour world wide. The UN has made it a goal in 2023 to give social justice to everyone and end child labour. June 12th has been made the world day against child labour. According to them, child labour can be eliminated. In India, 'Bal Shramik Vidya Yojana' in Uttar Pradesh aims to educate child laborers, with plans to cover all 75 districts and reach 5,000 children. This will help in improving the situation of child labour. At a personal level, when we see any child laborer, we should report it.
