Superstitions- Ruining our belief system

Growing up I have heard a lot of superstitions. As a child, I was told never to directly give someone a scissor in the hand, I should keep it on a surface so that the other person could pick it up. When I asked why, I was told that if I gave it to the person in the hand, I would fight with them. I found it silly. The actual reason should have been that the other person would have gotten hurt on the hand from the sharp edge.

This is just one of them, there are so many and sometimes it gets ridiculous. I have heard that if a black cat crosses our path then it's bad luck. I never understood this one, what did the black cat do that made you unlucky? The cat was just trying to cross the road or go somewhere like any other cat. These superstitions are strong beliefs of people making them change their life according to these beliefs. It is so wrong to create a belief system that it is just based on one incident without any scientific proof.

Honestly, it happens everywhere, touching wood is one of the superstitions that is followed world wide. Touching wood is one that is followed almost everywhere. The problem is when these beliefs affect people around us. There are a lot of superstitions about girls which are not true at all.

These problems happen when a person is restricted from doing something because one person once said that it was unlucky or it was wrong. Who is this person? This “person” has created beliefs that restrict girls from going to their own kitchen or to a temple. Why? What is the scientific proof to these beliefs? There is actually no proof.

We have made superstitions on some of the most natural things like a cow cawing indicates that a guest is coming. Did your guest talk to the cow? No. Did the guest tell the cow to go to your house and go to your window? No. It is just another belief

Some person once said that if someone calls your name when you are about to leave then you should not leave. Maybe this person had some personal experience where someone was calling out to him/her and they left and later they realised how wrong that was. It depends on the person right? Why did this become a belief? If I am leaving for school and my mother calls my name and tells me that I forgot my bottle of water, does that mean I do not go to school?

Superstitions are happening because of one person or a group of people saying something completely wrong and making it a rule and belief system. The youth of this age questions all of these things asking for proof and that is how it should be. Superstitions are beliefs of some people and these people should not be given the power to make their beliefs the beliefs of the world. We need to start believing in things that actually can be proved and are factually and scientifically right.
