Mysteries intrigue all of us. We humans are inquisitive by nature and wish to discover the causes and facts behind phenomena around us. But various incidents that have occurred in the Bermuda triangle over the years are a mystery that still remains unsolved.
Flight 19, a group of five Avenger Torpedo bombers took off on 5th December, 1945 from Fort Lauderdale in US. It was expected to be a routine flight, however, shortly after dropping their payload of replica bombs, the bombers ran into trouble. Taylor, one of the pilots, felt that his compass was malfunctioning and that they were flying in the wrong direction. The weather got worse and Taylor went against protocol of pointing the plane towards the setting sun. A few minutes later the bombers disappeared. Two Mariner flying boats which went to search for the missing Flight 19 also disappeared, never to be recovered. People are still scratching their heads and trying to reach for an answer but without Success.
Similarly, In 1881, the Ellen Austin ship set off from Liverpool destined for New York through the Bermuda Triangle. The captain sighted another vessel sailing erratically in the distance twice. The ship appeared abandoned and was moving unpredictably. However, the ship suddenly disappeared and was never sighted again. There have been many other similar incidents of disappearances of ships and aircrafts.
Multiple theories about the disappearance have been propounded. Scientists believe conditions in that area are
just right for “massive rogue waves''. There is also a theory about “Methane bubbles' ', craters of up to half-a-mile wide and 150 ft deep. Once these gases reach a certain mass and burst to the surface, they cause large eruptions. Some theories have suggested that the agonic line, the point where the magnetic and true north are perfectly aligned, passing through Bermuda Triangle, resulting in a magnetic phenomenon which could explain cases where pilots and ship captains claimed their compasses ceased to work properly, causing them to veer off-course.There are then other theories about disappearances being caused by sea monsters, cosmic time wrap, holes in the oceans which swallow ships.
