The Charm of a Sunset

As I often gazed out the window during the lockdown, wondering what to do next (sadly there was not much to do anyways), the vibrant hues of orange, yellow, pink, and red reached my eye and I discovered the magic of a sunset. This gradually became a daily routine of mine, and I never failed to reach out to a camera to capture this splendid moment. Isn’t it astonishing how just in a matter of a few minutes, the sky changes its shades from bright yellow to fiery red and pale pink?

A sight like this is truly picture worthy.

In a city like Mumbai, with the innumerable construction of buildings happening all around the year, it makes one feel like there isn’t much to see within the concrete jungle, but if we just open our eyes and take some time out of our busy and taxing lives, the rays of the shining yellow sun will reach us through our windows and it is not a view to miss. Indeed it is rightly said that- "Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.”

Sunsets are a sense of calmness and relaxation. They are proof that even a bad day can end beautifully. Sunsets are immensely inspiring. English philosopher Bernard Williamsonce said, “It is almost impossible to watch a sunset and not dream.” Watching the sun set below the horizon puts us in a state of awe, we dream and are instantly inspired. Sunsets have been a constant source of inspiration for so many poets and writers. Research has shown that sunsets can improve one’s mental health. When we watch a sunset, it makes us realise that we are all just a small part of a much bigger picture, we start seeing our obstacles as specks on the horizon. Sunsets can boost one’s mood in an instant and are real stress busters.

Most people would agree that a sunset holds the power to stop just about anyone in their tracks.

A few minutes out of our day to give our attention to the magic being created by nature is enough to instill a feeling of gratitude in our hearts. I will always marvel at the mere fact that you will never experience the same sunset twice, each and every one is extremely special and unique in its own way!
