The Fallen Prince

I sat atop the little hedge on the balcony. It was very narrow. All I could think of was home.

Oh right, hello.

Extraterrestrial creature from another planet.

Suave charm, quick-witted personality.

All I wanted was to just go home.

“Please”, a silent prayer tugged at my lips, “Let me home, please.”

It had been... I don’t know.

Too long.

Far too long.

The world had been in absolute chaos and it was my fault. All my fault. I had tried to fix it, done my level best and it had been in vain.

Despair, destruction, desolation.

Three harsh words that go hand in hand, and unfortunately fit right in like puzzle pieces into my life.

There was a place.

A home beyond the stars that I belonged to.

One of shimmering palaces, extravagant streams, lavish fashions and the greatest gifts the universe could ever see.

A realm of protection and of peace.

Obviously, the latter half being a truce that I had broken upon the accord of my own stupidity.

I stretched a finger out lazily to the skies, the ‘heavens’ as the people of this planet had called it.

I winced, shielding the few tears that rolled down my cheeks stolidly, wiping away at them with the back of a green sleeved shirt.

I remembered.

Playing in the royal gardens, being one at home.

Shifting through tons of books, my fingers skimming against the backs of each.

I had looked at them with such awe, such wonder and sprite, I had only wished I had kept that feeling thrumming in my bones.

Not let it out and destroyed everything I had ever cared for.

I’d return.

One day, some night.

I’d return to what I called home.

I skipped off the ledge and onto the cold harsh flooring of the cold terrace.

I walked back, hands stuffed into pockets, not actually minding the cold, but rather feeling the one spreading my heart.

“I’d return”, I thought - no I knew - as I flipped the shimmering blue stone out my hand.
