The game is never lost till won!

Before I discovered the miracles of science, magic ruled the world. As I have been reading blogs and articles about how the scientists have unravelled so many things all the way from mysteries of the universe to what will happen if a person has an extra chromosome, I have honestly been baffled. I mean wow! There is so much beyond our knowledge which is so intriguing. One such moment took place a few days ago….

US surgeons successfully implanted a heart from a genetically modified pig in a 57-year-old man, a medical first that could one day help solve the chronic shortage of organ donations.

The "historic" procedure took place on 7th January 2021 at the University of Maryland Medical School. While the patient's prognosis is far from certain, it represents a major milestone for animal to human transplantation. I mean, imagine someone transplanting a genetically modified pig’s heart into you and you surviving, how cool would that be right?

"It was either die or do this transplant. I want to live. I know it's a shot in the dark, but it's my last choice," the Maryland resident Bennett said a day before the surgery. This was a breakthrough surgery and brings us one step closer to solving the organ shortage crisis. The successful procedure provided valuable information to help the medical community improve this potentially life-saving method in future patients. The doctors learned something from 4 patients that they couldn't learn from 40 monkeys.

Bennett's donor pig belonged to a herd that had undergone genetic editing procedures. The editing was performed by Virginia-based biotech firm Revivicor. The donated organ was kept in an organ-preservation machine ahead of the surgery. So many people are currently waiting for an organ transplant but cannot continue with the surgery due to organ shortages. But with further research this major crisis can be solved all thanks to our wonderful doctors and scientists. This is a great step forward- you can compare it with the 1st landing on the moon. So guys don’t worry about you dying cause there was no heart which could be transplanted to you, these new breakthroughs in the medical field will be by your side.
