“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything” -Plato.
Music is the mirror of the soul. Happiness, sadness, anger, anxiety, each and every emotion and expression can be emoted through music. When words leave our side music comes to our rescue. It evokes our emotional memory.
Music, ah! How do I express it! When I listen to music I go into my world of imagination. It relaxes my mind and my thoughts get calmer. My soul dances on its tunes and I am at the peak level of peace.
Music has been a boon in each and everyone’s life.
Music can touch life even when it’s in the cocoon. The heartbeat of the mother is like music to a child that’s just born, the rattling of rain is like music to the trees and the chirping of the birds is like music to our good mornings.
Music is a universal language. It connects each and every living organism in the universe. The nectar of each festival is music. Be it singing carols during Christmas, bhangra in Lohri the festival of harvest, dancing to the tunes of garbas to appease the goddess, from birth to death, music gives meaning to all the emotions.
Music is the language of love. Radha fell in love with Lord Krishna through the tunes of his flute, Meerabai expressed her devotion to Lord Krishna through music and reached her highest. Music has healing power. The flowers bloom to their tune and the body heals to its best.
Music helps to improve our memory. Musical instruments enhance our verbal memory and make us use both sides of the brain. Children through singing and playing tunes enhance their aural discrimination.
The power of music can be seen and understood through Deepak Raag and Megh Malhar. On one hand, when Deepak Raag induced fire, Megh Malhar extinguished the fire.
Music can tame the wild and bring peace like Pied Piper. I hereby end by quoting Friedrich Nietzsche ‘Without music, life would be a mistake.’
