The Sport that Steals the Limelight

Cricket. A sport that steals the limelight over all other sports in India - and rightly so. Why shouldn’t it? It's the democratic choice of the people all over the country. No one forced people to choose this incredible sport as one they love, the choice has been made naturally and unanimously, so we shall respect this decision.

People of India breathe cricket, eat cricket and dream cricket. Such is the love for the game in the hearts of the masses- shouldn't we honour such deep sentiments? Cricket gives people relief from their mundane daily life problems and is an excellent mood enhancer. The entire country is filled with enthusiasm and anticipation during cricket tournaments, and with joy and happiness if those tournaments are won. It elevates the mood of the whole country, isn't that a great way to live through and display the unity among us, especially for a diverse country like ours! Victories in cricket are celebrated like festivals in India, with the firecrackers and sweets being distributed all over. Such is the joy of spreading the spirit of this great game.

In our country, cricket is played by almost everyone, regardless of age, equipment or space available. Nothing expensive or exquisite is required to play and enjoy cricket, it can be played practically anywhere, even with a plank of wood, and the ball. Be it in a stadium, an open field, the narrow streets, the small playground opposite the residential colony, or even the corridor inside buildings. Children and adults play this sport with great zeal. Its universal appeal is the reason for its popularity. Cricket has won the hearts of thousands, and many other sports really envy the prime position that cricket enjoys. They demand the same love and attention as cricket but fail to realise that love and attention need to be commanded and not demanded. Long live cricket, the king of sports in India!
