Our inspiration, our guiding light, it is our mother who gives us the power to fight. A mother can be described in many ways for the way she lives, learns and lectures all in one lifetime. A mother is incomparable, her advice is unparalleled and her love is transcendent. She is an educator, mentor, lodestar, nurturer and a source of strength in all our lives. A mother is one who learns to love a soul without seeing it, she is one who gives a part of herself to raise another, she is the strongest and boldest.
The most important parts of our lives are these selfless and valiant women, without them her child could be affected, it could be good or bad. An absence of a mother isn't just her not being around, it is the automatic disappearance of support, motivation and most importantly love among many other things. This could not only affect her young but also her family, without her being there to be the glue of the family, to fill the empty piece.
Imagine a child, son or daughter, growing up without a mother showing up to their piano recital or fourth grade graduation, imagine a child who has never been taught by their mother the day before an exam, it is a mother’s responsibility to do all these things and many more, all the the small things matter. These little instances make up to be a big part of the childrens’ lives, affecting them tremendously. Not being present for even a simple meal can change the outcome because showing up matters.
Showing up for your child is a key building block in building their confidence and sense of self.
A 7 year old girl, Anna is on stage for her first ballet recital. She is nervous, scared and has a face filled with fear. She looks throughout the audience for her mother, pondering her eyes upon every single seat but just could not find her. Already filled with nerves, Anna begins to dance, at least she tries to but she cannot reach her full potential. Just 5 minutes later Anna’s mom runs into the auditorium running late and the little girl immediately finds her and her face only has room for a big smile from ear to ear. From that moment till the end, neither the mom nor Anna stopped smiling and Anna then did her best and finally reached her full potential.
This one example simply shows both sides of the story, an absent mother leaving her child helpless and a present mother supporting and motivating her daughter. It is proof that showing up does matter.
To conclude, we have learned that we should be grateful for our mothers, we should be compassionate and most importantly reciprocate the love. We have learned that a mother has the power to shape her young one’s life with or without her unconditional love.
“ We cannot do great things.
Only small things with great love.”
- Mother Teresa
