Our names are what we take for granted from the moment we attain consciousness of our existence. A name becomes synonymous to us as we in human society get recognized, despised, and loved by it. Although the names borne by us are given by our loved ones, we tend to achieve everything in life with this name. In many civilizations, names given to the children are the ones who are mythological and theological figures and heroes of the religion practiced by that society. While in most primitive societies the children are named on the surrounding objects, elements of nature, and other parts of the surroundings where the civilization flourished.
In our country, we practice the system of choosing the first letter according to the arrangement of the constellations during the time of the birth of the child. This first letter, derived with the help of the constellations, is used in choosing from the names of the gods, mythological heroes whose actions and valor inspired generations. The aim behind doing so was to inspire the younger generation to aspire to rise to their greatness.
There have been trends of using the first syllables of the consonant letter to select names from other civilizations and regions of the world. This is due to globalization and extensive interaction that has been facilitated by trade and commerce. This trend has alienated the younger generations from the roots of the civilization of the land. This has indirectly resulted in a lack of connection with the traditions and culture and thereby causing the younger generation to not take pride in their rich heritage. This has resulted in an inferiority complex and a craving to associate with cultures of other countries. Therefore, the name is a very important integral part of human personality as it has an impact on not only the thoughts but also the actions of the people.
