World Hunger - A Major Crisis

“There are people in this world so hungry, that god cannot appear to them except in the form of bread.’’

- Mahatma Gandhi

About 828 million people from around the world go to bed hungry every night because of the global pandemic of starvation. We don’t understand and value food because it comes our way really easily and we don’t need to struggle for it. But, the people of the backward classes who cannot live up to their financial goals go through a difficult time feeding their families and themselves.

There are several reasons due to which starvation happens in our country. The regions of North Bengal, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh suffer the most due to starvation. The deaths go beyond the matter of food. Many diseases are also caused due to malnutrition like Kwashiorkor, Marasmus, Anaemia, Mumps and Vitamin Deficiency.

The government has come up with various schemes to help the ones in need in the area of nutrition supply. However, there are still so many people who go to bed with an empty stomach. It indicates how the government fails to help the underprivileged when they need it the most. However, this is also an issue of illiteracy. When people do not understand what their rights are and what they are being promised, they fail to ensure its execution. In other words, the people do not raise their voices against the corruption of the officials who are handling the task of distributing food. This is because they are not aware of their power.

Therefore, we all need to come together to eradicate this issue completely. While there are people wasting food, there are many who die due to not getting some. This inequality must be stopped. The government must ensure its schemes are being implemented properly by honest officials.

It is easy to say that ‘we all should work together to make this world a better place’ but when it comes to us as an individual to make a move we tend to not make the effort and just lay low. For bringing about a positive change globally we need to bring a change within ourselves and help the ones in need. We don’t need to feed hundreds of people to bring a change. By feeding just one person or donating some money to charity or packing small food boxes for the ones in need we can play our part and bring a smile to other people’s faces. We should also support the UN as they play a major role in making the world a better place and helping everyone globally.
