In movies, we have seen superpowers like teleportation. We all have been astounded by the fact that we can travel to different places in a fraction of a second. But at the end of the day, we had accepted that a supernatural ability like this could not exist even with all your technology. But what if I said it is possible to teleport to another galaxy or universe?
This teleportation is only confirmed theoretically through Einstien-Rosen Bridges or wormholes. Wormholes are the solution of the field equations in German-born physicist Albert Einstein’s theory of general relativity that resembles a tunnel between a black hole and a white hole or other points in space-time. Such a tunnel would provide a shortcut between its endpoints. Connecting the paired singularities of a black hole and a white hole together forms the simplest kind of wormhole, also known as an Einstein-Rosen bridge.
A black hole forms when a massive star at the end of its life shrinks catastrophically under its own gravity down to an infinitesimally small point, or singularity. All that is left behind from the stellar collapse is a grossly warped region of space, so where does the star’s matter actually go? One possibility is that it explodes into another universe as a white hole. White holes are the opposite of black holes. Black holes trap all matter and light, whereas white holes spit out matter and light. Just like nothing can escape a black hole, nothing can enter a white hole. So to travel through space-time dimensions, we get eaten up by a black hole and get spit out by a white hole in an entirely different universe.
But unfortunately, the event horizon of the black hole is not very welcoming so there is no guarantee that you will enter the black hole in one piece. As the spaghettification will tear your body parts. If you are lucky enough to enter a supermassive black hole’s event horizon, then you are in for a worse death: The point of singularity. This is where Black holes collapse. It is a geometric point in space where the compression of mass is infinite density and zero volume. Space-time curves infinitely, gravity is infinite, and the laws of physics cease to function. If you come from a line of thunder gods like thor, become indestructible, and manage to survive the point of singularity, then, dear reader, you have just earned yourself a green card for our neighboring galaxy: The Andromeda Galaxy.
