Mental Health. It is an integral part of our well being and quite often, the most neglected one.
Now, what exactly is mental health? Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. Over the years people have started to prioritise mental health and spread awareness about one's well being but despite that people tend to feel as though they are the only ones fighting this battle.
We as humans tend to get anxious and nervous at times and we tend to worry over certain things and this is what makes us human. It is completely normal to feel that way. We all do.
However, that may also result in a greater mental illness and we must not ignore it.
It may be due to various reasons such as being stressed over an upcoming exam or job interview, or a greater cause such as the loss of a loved one or an accident. The reason may be big or small, but it matters.
As per trusted sources about 1 in 4 adults suffer from mental health issues - on a small or larger scale. Adults aren't the only ones, though less in number it is extremely common amongst the youth of our generation - especially teenagers.
Anxiety and depression are commonly used terms amongst most people, but it should never be taken lightly. It is a serious diagnosed disorder. Anxiety is something which develops over time, and is triggered by a traumatic event or it comes from a place of fear. Depression, on the other hand, is an illness that does not have a particular reason. It is when one feels alone, miserable, futile, lost and demotivated.
These are two out of a multitude of mental health diseases such as bipolar, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Eating Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
If anyone you know is going through a tough phase or any of these problems you must reach out to a reliable source and let them know. It may feel like an endless battle but one should understand that they are not alone. We must always check up on ourselves and the people around us.
Your mental health is important!
