What is bullying? Bullying is the repeated aggressive behavior intended to hurt someone either emotionally or physically when one individual dominates over the other. Bullying can take place in person or online via digital platforms.
Bullying might take place over a while; However, it scars a person forever. Individuals who are bullied, especially students, experience anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. It takes a toll on their physical as well as mental health. The result is that many students refuse to go to school and there is a huge drop in their academic performance and loss of interest in extra-curricular activities. A survey also showed that 64% of students do not even report being bullied.
Bullying is not only prevalent among teenagers. It is a problem that can be faced by adults too. An individual might be bullied for something as simple as aspects of their appearance like weight and height. A UNESCO report says that 32% of students are bullied at schools world-wide and now have declared it as a major global issue.
The main question is how to control it? Bullying can be controlled by spreading awareness about its effects. An individual showing the slightest symptoms of being bullied, should not be neglected. Most bullies are people who are stressed, angry or frustrated due to problems faced in their own lives, and since they do not know how to express themselves, they make someone else suffer along with them. The bully as well as the victim, both need help, love and support. Lastly, we need to spread awareness about self-love and body positivity.
To grow and develop as a society, we have to collectively work against the act of bullying which has been often neglected by people.
